Defining Moments

In 1994, a nursing student conducts a hearing test at the Lillian D. Wald Community Nursing Center (today known as the Wald Clinic) of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. The clinic was founded that same year to fill a major gap in health care provided to Baltimore’s underserved population, providing physical examinations and routine preventive services, immunizations, and lead screening to uninsured children. In 1996, the clinic began a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, and in 1997 began providing clinical services to adults.
